Academic Dress and Robes
Robes of the officers of IBTS
The robes of IBTS are prescribed as follows. Specific dress is determined for the Rector, Academic Dean, Kvestor and Directors. Other academic staff should wear academic gowns and hoods they are entitled to. Academic staff with degrees from institutions not having gowns and hoods may wear a black undress graduate gown of the pattern of the University of Wales.
Rector
Black gown in typical masters style with facing of EBF purple 7 cm wide edged with white either side at 1.5cm wide. Cap of Czech style with purple top of same material as facing and white piping on top rim.
Academic Dean
Black gown in typical masters style with facing of EBF purple only at 7 cm wide. Cap of Czech style with purple piping on top rim.
Kvestor
Black gown of typical masters style with white facing only 7 cm wide. Cap of Czech style with white piping on top rim.
Academic Team Course Leaders
Black gown in typical masters style with no additional colour. Black cap Czech style.
Registrar
Black gown of typical Masters style with two parallel EBF purple strips on facing.
University of Wales Master of Theology
Masters' gown of the pattern customary for this degree. The hood is of Cambridge form and of black silk, lined with mazarin blue shot with red.
University of Wales Master of Philosophy
As for a Master of Theology but the hood is bordered with crimson.
University of Wales Doctor of Philosophy
Crimson cloth gown of the customary pattern. Full sleeves reversed edge at the front, with silk facings and sleeve-linings proper to the Faculty in which the degree has been obtained. The hood is of the Cambridge form made of crimson cloth and lined with silk of the colours proper to the Faculty of Theology, mazarin blue shot with red.
IBTS Magister of Theology
Black masters' gown of the Cambridge pattern. The Magister hood of black lined with purple cloth.
Ceremonial Occasions
On Ceremonial occasions (Commencement, Graduation, Anniversary celebrations or others determined by the Rector with or without consultation with the Dean and Kvestor) festal robing shall be appropriate with academic staff wearing hoods appropriate to their qualifications. Those with doctoral gowns may wear those in place of IBTS black gowns.
Other Occasions
On other occasions not prescribed as festal occasions by the Rector, academic staff may wear black undress gowns with, or without hood.
