60 year Diamond Jubilee of IBTS: 1949 - 2009
The Academic Year 2008 - 2009 sees IBTS Celebrate 60 years of service to the world Baptist family - educating pastors, missiologists, theological teachers, union and convention leaders. Yes, it is 60 years since Dr George Sadler gathered the first group of students in Rüschlikon, Switzerland, in 1949.
Since that time IBTS has grown from an institution offering initial ministerial formation to a handful of European men, into a world institution providing accredited and validated degrees for women and men from first level to doctor of philosophy and with an expanding range of specialist post graduate programmes for continuing professional development. It is an amazing story with alumni serving in every continent and with a current student and academic team from over 30 countries and a community of 160 in our Prague family!
Celebrate with us!
IBTS invites all friends of the seminary – students, alumni, former and current teachers, volunteers and supporters – to a special Jubilee gathering on 28-31 May 2009. This will be an opportunity for all those who have enjoyed IBTS in Rüschlikon and in Prague to celebrate what God has enabled IBTS to be and do in these sixty years.
These celebratory days will include:
- Reunion day for various groups – students, volunteers, teachers, those who have had sabbaticals at the seminar etc (Thursday, 28/05)
- Graduation ceremony (Friday, 29/05)
- Jubilee Celebration (Saturday, 30/05)
- Open air thanksgiving worship service on Sunday (31/05)
And of course there will be time to enjoy the beauties of the marvellous city of Prague.

Baptists throughout the world are promising to buy a present for IBTS to celebrate our Diamond Jubilee. Here is our wish list with items to suit every pocket!
- Endowing a Lectureship at IBTS (An endowment producing Kc 2m per year to fully fund a post?)
- Gifting a new Seminary "van" Kc 900,000
- Gifting a new Seminary car Kc 600,000 – Kc 800,000 for airport collections.
- Gifting of solar panels to produce hot water – a scheme for Oncken Pavilion etc Kc 2 million?
- Gifting photo voltaic panels for electricity production for "street lights" etc Kc 500,000
- Contributing towards re-landscaping and upgrading landscape of the campus – gifts of Kc 50,000 for trees and plantings to "green" the site.
- Eco-seminary: replacing cheap wire fencing with wooden fencing from appropriate sustainable wood stocks around the chateau park.
- Endowing a student Scholarship Kc 1 million
- Provision of an electric car for the campus to replace the collapsing golf cart - Kc 200,000
- Purchase new computers for the student computer lab – Kc 10,000 each
- Provision of additional video and computer projection (fixed) for rooms B201, C 206, Dvorak, Smetana at Kc 10,000 per room.
- IT resources for the library – electronic books, electronic journal subscriptions etc in Kc 10,000 units.
- Special 60 year gifts of books to the Library in Kc 1,000 units.
