How to find an article?

Periodical Indexes

Because journals are comprised of articles on different topics, they are not “catalogued” as are books but articles are individually “indexed” in periodicals’ databases, searchable by subject, author, title or keyword. IBTS Library has several index databases, print and online, that can be searched to find articles on a certain topic.

For online Periodical Indexes the best in theological studies are Index Theologicus and ATLA’s Religion Database.

To find out what journals are available at IBTS, please check the List of Periodicals or the IBTS Library Opac for journal titles (not article titles).

The current issues are displayed in the alphabetical order at the display in the entrance hall. The recent issues awaiting binding are available in the librarian’s office. The past issues, which have been bound and are identified with PER, are arranged according to the alphabetical order on the shelves at the far end of the reading room and in the periodicals room.

How to access electronic journals?

IBTS also subscribes to several full-text databases that carry journals in theology and religion. While access on the IBTS campus is streamlined, for remote access please use Moodle platform. Passwords are available from Head Librarian.

Many academic journals for serious study have become available freely online in recent years. They may not have the best search features but carry relevant content worthy of consideration. See open access journals.

Copy, print or e-mail articles

When you find articles relevant to your topic, you can either make copies of print materials (3.5,- CZK per page at Circulation Desk) or use the respective features in the various databases to print or e-mail articles to your mailbox.

Get articles not available at IBTS

If IBTS does not own the print journal and has no subscription to a full-text electronic version of an article that you need, the Library will attempt to order a copy of the article for you from another library. We will need the following information: author and title of article, title of journal, date, volume, and issue number of the journal, page numbers of the article. See more under Interlibrary Loans or contact Library staff.
