IBTS graduation with BWA President
IBTS, Prague, was at its festive best this week, when BWA President, the Revd David R Coffey (England) visited IBTS for the annual Graduation Service, delivering the address to the graduands.
Five students graduated Master of Theology and were awarded their diplomas by BWA President, David Coffey and thirteen students graduated from the Certificate in Applied Theology course, again, receiving their diplomas from Mr Coffey. A further eight students were Valedicted as they moved to the dissertation writing stage of their Masters and Magister degrees.
Amongst a capacity congregation present for the ceremony was Her Excellency, Linda Duffield, the British Ambassador; Ms Ekaterina Barancheva, Third Secretary from the Russian Embassy; representatives of the theology faculties of the Charles University and the EBF General Secretary, the Revd A A Peck . Representatives of other English language educational institutions in Prague were also present.
Mr Coffey, Baptist World Alliance President and retiring General Secretary of the Baptist Union of Great Britain, gave a challenging address to the graduating students on the challenges facing Christians in our mission and discipleship today basing his address on the call of the prophet Isaiah in Isaiah 6 and verses 1-8. . He encouraged and inspired them to take the knowledge they had acquired and use it in the service of the Kingdom of God as they returned to serve in their home countries.
The Graduating students were presented by the Pro-Rector and Academic Dean, Dr Parush R Parushev. The Rector, the Revd Keith G Jones and the Kvestor, Dr Petra Veselá, congratulated each of the graduating students after Mr Coffey had presented the diplomas.
The Master of Theology students came from France, Czech Republic, Sweden and the United States of America.
Certificate students from Serbia, Moldova, Lithuania, Romania, Russia, Ukraine and Israel.
The Rector expressed the thanks of the whole IBTS community to the BWA President for participating in the graduation. He was presented with two books published by IBTS on "Theological Education as Mission" and "Mission in the Former Soviet Union". A gift of fine Czech cut glass was made for Mrs Coffey.
