The Institute of Biblical Studies is particularly interested in the area of Biblical interpretation. It conducts research in intertextuality and inner-Biblical interpretation, in Jewish studies of the Hebrew Bible, looking at Judaism and its interpretation of the Bible from the earliest time and up to the present. At the same time, the Institute studies early Christian and patristic interpretation as a second stream running parallel to Jewish exegesis. When analysing Christian interpretation, the Institute focuses on regional areas of interest, looking at the EBF region and at the different areas of interpretation as it effects baptistic communities. Because of such regional context and focus, the Institute of Biblical studies will do further research work in patristic, Anabaptist and baptistic interpretations as well as in contemporary interpretation approaches that effect Baptist life and practise.
A core group provides leadership to the Institute’s projects and represents the overall interests of the study. Other renown specialists, because of their expertise and areas of interest and avalability, are invited to support the Institute’s activities and will be listed under specific projects. The core group of the Institute of Biblical studies is comprised of IBTS Biblical studies department faculty.
The Institute is involved in the following projects that will lead to conferences, coloquia, special research projects, dissertations and publications.
