Research Fellow

Dr Tommaso Manzon

PhD in Theology & Religious Studies (King's College London)

Dr Tommaso Manzon joined IBTS as a Research Fellow in 2022.

Research Interests

"My research interests can be broadly divided into two areas: 1) The intersection between systematic theology (with an emphasis on the Baptist and Reformed traditions) and contemporary philosophical thought; in particular, I am interested in ways in which contemporary theological epistemology can help the Church to re-think and navigate modernity and its theoretical paradigm. Nietzsche, Kierkegaard, and 20th centuries theological and philosophical thought (Barth inter al.) are particular areas of focus; 2) The history of theological and philosophical thought, with an eye to explore and retrieve medieval thought as a neglected source for contemporary Evangelical/Protestant thought and practice. At the moment, I am working on Early Franciscan thought (mostly on Bonaventure) and the Franciscans' development of Greek Patristic and Victorines themes; in the future, I hope to work on the connections between the Franciscans' approach to theology and its (arguably indirect) influence on Luther and the Reformers."
