Writing Academic English

IBTSC Course: Writing Academic English (3EC)

The focus of the course is on writing academic English for publication. This will concentrate on correct style, grammar, and the way in which work needs to be presented in keeping with publication guidelines. Participants are helped to identify a piece of their research which could be written as a 4000-6000 word Journal article. During and following the workshop participants are enabled and encouraged to start writing such an article and to submit it for publication.

Jonathan Roach and Gricel Dominguez, Expressing Theology: a guide to writing theology that readers want to read (Eugene, OR: Cascade Books, 2015).

 

Intended Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this course participants should be able to:

  1. Identify the elements of a clear argument in academic writing
  2. Recognise some key components of style and grammar in English language academic writing
  3. Appreciate the importance of paying close attention to publication guidelines
  4. Identify an element of their research that can be presented for publication
